Not identified in Scotland. In lots of locations it is the commonest of the “Blues.” It has been found at Epping; Coombe Wood; Darenth Wood; Box Hill; Ripley, Surrey; Brighton; Lewes; Deal; Lyndhurst; Blandford; Brandon, Suffolk; Holt, Norfolk; Birkenhead; Bristol; Sarum, Wiltshire; Lyme Regis; Parley Heath, Dorsetshire; Manchester; York; a number of places in Scotland. The butterfly was present in July and August, being previously particularly abundant about Yaxley and Whittlesea Mere, and has been taken additionally at Benacre, Suffolk; and Bardolph Fen, Norfolk. For instance, in the Isle of Wight, last August, I took P. Argiolus, Corydon, Adonis, Alexis, and Agestis, all within about one hour, and an area of some yards sq. within the corner of a discipline. In their manners, and the localities they inhabit, there is so much in frequent, that one description of these will answer for practically each one in all them; in order that my small out there space will likely be in nice part devoted to mentioning the marks of distinction between the varied species, ten in quantity, several of them closely resembling others generally look, and requiring some care of their discrimination.

Colouring:-Upper aspect, darkish blue, granulated with black scales that give it a dull facet, having a black border, and a collection of giant black spots across the front wing.
Colouring:-Upper aspect, dark brown, distinctly powdered with blue close to the root of the wing in the male, with out blue in the feminine. Under aspect, greyish drab, suffused with greenish blue close to the body; towards centre, many black spots in indistinct light-colored rings, and a double border of the same. Colouring:-Upper side, male, pale silvery greenish blue, with very silky gloss, and shading off right into a broad black border. Under side marked as in fig. 2 a, on a brown ground, with a row of crimson spots close to border of hind wing. The feminine is larger, has a redder tinge, with a row of black spots on the entrance wings, and the hind wings nearly lined with black, excepting a band of coppery pink close to the margin, extending also kind of distinctly along the courses of the veins. Underneath, both sexes are practically alike, the hind wing of a general light blue tint, with a pink band close to the margin, and noticed with black. This, in the male, is of an effulgent coppery color, narrowly bordered with black, and having a black mark within the centre of each wing. This varieties a really prepared mark of distinction, though it requires an excellent many words to elucidate it.
